Eigen: Try the Demo
Published Aug 14, 2026
Eigen is a European Google Workspace alternative where you own your data. Until now, trying it meant asking me for an account or installing it yourself.
There is a demo now. Go to demo.eigen.is and press "Enter demo". No account, no install.
Tuimel Festival
The demo is not an empty workspace. You land in a small, fictional festival: Tuimel Festival, a community arts and music festival run by volunteers. It is three weeks away, the line-up is almost done, and there are not enough volunteers yet.
You join as one of the twenty people on the crew. Every time you enter, you get a random crew member. That person has mail, a calendar, chats with the rest of the team and a shared drive: a budget sheet, a sponsor deck, a production plan, a press release, a kanban board and a hand-drawn site plan.
Everything is made up. The people, the bands and the vendors do not exist. But the workspace has comments, history and unread messages, so you can see how Eigen works in use.
All apps work
The demo is a real Eigen server. All apps are there: mail, drive, docs, sheets, slides, stickies, chat, calendar, contacts and vector. You can edit documents, move cards, plan events, search, and share files with other crew members.
Collaboration works too. Open the same document in a second browser window (a private window, so you enter as a different crew member) and you see two cursors in the same text. Or send the link to someone else.
The only thing that is switched off is outgoing mail.
It resets every hour
Everyone in the demo shares the same workspace. You may see changes made by other visitors, and they will see yours. Every hour the workspace is wiped and rebuilt. Whatever you do in there is gone within the hour, so edit and delete as much as you like.
Feedback
If you try the demo, I would like to hear what you think: what works, what feels wrong, and what is missing.
